I have a circular shaped kitchen sink bought used so without fittings. It does not have a lip underneath at the edge like standard shaped steel kitchen sinks do so I can't use those type of clip fittings.

Any suggestions other than using loads of silicone?

It's loads of silicone, CT1, a hybrid polymer, is very effective at sealing and gluing

+1, if it's sitting on the top of the worktop then a bead of silicone around the edge and then use a weight in the sink to hold it down till it sets.
