Hi folks,

Can you give me ideas on sorting our toilet. The flushing noise goes on for too long now. The cistern empties quick enough but the refill just keeps going. Lifting the lid I can see water going into a vertical pipe. No doubt a simple fix for those in the know so any help welcome.

Cheers

Is water dribbling into the toilet pan?

Close-coupled toilet?

What kind of flush valve is it?

Either the fill valve needs adjusting to the right level or it wants replacing and is probably discharging into the pan via the internal overflow(the vertical pipe).

Old wc's (vertical pape is an overflow/warning pipe) should terminate outside the building. Is there a pipe on the outside wall near the loo room dripping/pouring out water? If so, then the washer or diaphragm on the filling valve is worn and needs replacing.
Newer toilets have an internal warning .... after filling the cistern water continues to go down the toilet pan..... Again either the filling valve washer/diaphragm worn needs replacing or.... just a guess! Have you put a cistern sanitising block into the cistern? You know, the ones that dissolve slowly and put deoudourising and cleaning/anitbac chems down the pan when you flush? If you have a cistern flush valve instead of the older type syphons.... there may be a good chance that some of this sani block has got trapped under the seat of the flush valve....
Use rim blocks instead... don't put anything inside the cistern that may stop it from reseating after flushing.
Just a thought!

Cheers for the prompt replies fellas.

Yes it's a close coupled unit. No idea of the type of valve....

There is a pipe just outside the wall but nothing coming from it. However, there is water continuing to run in to the pan after flushing.

If I need to replace the valve or seal are they readily available and how do you match them up?

Alternatively Armo74 how do you adjust the fill valve?

Thanks again.
