We have had a problem with the inter cooler - whooshing noise and loss of power when accelerating. The garage replaced the inter cooler but a pipe? has popped off twice since (within 3 weeks of new part replaced) & loss of power & black smoke from exhaust followed. Garage trying to wash hands of it. Can anyone help us to resolve this issue. Has it been diagnosed correctly?

Are you sure the garage actually replaced the intercooler? and did not just wash it out.
You seem to be developing a large back pressure, are all the hoses tight?
I'm not sure but is the car fitted with a waste gate, if so this is another place where the problem could be.
I would suggest you take it to a different garage, if the car is still under warranty, have the job done and refer them back to the garage that failed to sort the problem out.
Thanks for that. The car unfortunately is not under warranty. We paid £300 for the intercooler, so I am assuming they have replaced it and not just washed it out. Can we check this ourselves?
The car is back with the garage as we are not happy with it's condition at the moment and they have mentioned something about pressure, but they do not have the right testing gear. I think they are going to borrow some to test the pressure. Would adjusting the pressure solve the problem finally. We are concerned that after spending this money we will be fobbed off, and still end up going to another garage and paying out yet moremoney.
