Hi all

Just hoping for some advice.
I would like to get my driveway cleaned and also the little bits of weeds removed and treated so they don't come back too soon.

I have been given a quote for £160 to pressure wash the drive way but that seems quite expensive? Would it not be cheaper to buy my own pressure washer and do it myself?

Another guy said he would pressure wash it and it is so powerful it would remove all the weeds and it would be then up to me to put something down after he was done?

Really don't know what to do so any advice appreciated?

Please see picture.

Thanks all

Weed brush.

Then buy a cheap pressure washer to clean the bricks. When dry, brush some kiln dried sand into the joints and seal with a patio brick sealer. Should be able to buy all the stuff for half what he is charging and you’ve got it all forever then.

Does a pressure washer use water or just air?
Will the weeds grow in the winter too?
Should I buy any weed killer stuff?

It's a two edged sword really......the pressure washer will remove any remaining sand / filler between the blocks and will shift some weeds (or cut them in half more likely).
The pressure washer uses water alone.
I find 'Path Clear' the best of the weed treatments, but it only acts on the green stuff, so a permanent sterilisation of the area isn't possible.
The weeds won't be as obvious in the winter, it's the seeds that blow around that causes the nuisance so fill those gaps once you've cleaned them!

That is not expensive, for the time it would need, to do it properly, but if you have the time, then better to buy your own pressure washer and DIY. Before pressure washing (they use water), you need to spray with weed killer, and allow a couple of weeks for it to work.

Glyphosate, is the most effective, and cheapest if bought to dilute. 5L, will last you a lifetime. You only spray the growth, when the growth appears. It then takes upto two weeks, before you see the results.

That drive needs replacing, its sunk!

Andy

Can imagine that would be expensive.

I have a outdoor tap in back garden so can run it around the outside of the house.
But if I buy my own and do it myself I need to ensure I have a suitable pressure washer to clean the driveway and that would blast away the weeds throat are there and one that is long enough or alteast one that I can buy a extension hose for to extend the length?

Any links to one would be great please. Under £200 though?

Hiw about this one?

Thanks all

I bought one of these in Aldi two years ago, and it does a good job of my driveway. Having said that, the guy who did my driveway 10 years ago, a friend, told me to never pressure wash it. I had to have it repaired in January of this year, due to a burst water main on the pavement, just outside my gate. When he came to do the repair, he knew that I had been pressure washing it.

Or just live with a driveway that has a few dips in it, I daresay the driveway has plenty of life left in it.

Blasting the visible tops off the weeds, they will simply regrow. You need to kill the weeds first, before you pressure wash.

Make sure you fill the gaps between the blocks after cleaning. Most block paving jobs use free draining material such as 1-4mm Joint Aggregate . Kiln Dried Sand is rarely used now. Using Joint Aggregate over Kiln Dried Sand seems to be better in reducing weed establishment IMHO.

I have a commercial jet washer and rotary washer head, see below:

Anything used on your drive way will make it worse and dislodge all the paving blocks.

The best thing to do is put down some weed killer and just pull out the weeds.

The guy who came round should of advised you to leave it alone untill it can be replaced.

Andy

Thanks so don't use a pressure washer on the driveway as it will dislodge the paving bricks.

Even if I do this and then put sand in the gaps?
