I don't really want to fork out for a powerflush so I'm wondering what the alternatives are? Is draining and refilling the system enough (using appropriate cleaners/inhibitors as part of the process), or should I also be removing each radiator and flushing out with a hose? The house is 14 years old if that makes a difference - I've no idea how much sludge typically collects over the years! I'm also planning to fit a Spirotrap (or similar) as part of the work.
Also, the pipes for each downstairs rad come up from somewhere behind the skirting so although I can drain down to the radiator valves, I guess nothing short of a powerflush will clean the sludge from these lower pipes?
