I have had redecoration carried out in a flat. The painters did a lot of sanding of the walls with the result the floor which has been sanded and varnished is very dirty. I have tried washing with soapy water twice but am left which a streaky white residue. I can't afford to have the the floor resanded, what can I use to remove this residue?

heeelllooo valcraw and welcome  ;)

are you sure its to do with sanding!!!!!

from you description it sounds like white paint smears wiped up but not properly

is it only small areas or a large area
if its small try white spirit but only if its a recent mark [a few days ]!!!

ANOTHER POINT if the wood gets wet under the varnish it can go opaque

perhaps leaving for a while will help!!!
