Hi Guys,

Over the past year I've had a recurring problem of rats entering a property I own however on the whole, the problem has been rectified.

A recent inspection from a new company found they had been entering a hole in the external wall and nestling under the bath in the downstairs bathroom. This wasn't identified on the original inspections and so have probably been getting in this area the whole time.

The hole has been repaired however what has been left is a carpet of rat droppings under the bath. Literally an inch thick, some of which have hardened like a pellet, and some which is caked into the plywood floor.

I'm told that cleaning and disturbing old rat droppings can be quite hazardous as the fumes and overall dust that is created can filter round the house and cause significant harm to anyone exposed to this.

Could anyone advise on the best method to clean the droppings up and/or recommend a company who would specialize in this?

I'm keen to get this rectified properly and professionally without putting the occupants at risk.

Thanks in advance,

Rat urine and, presumably, droppings which will be soaked in rat urine can cause a, possibly, fatal disease called Weil's Disease or leptospirosis. As said bleach, which is at this time being promoted to kill all known bacteria, viri and common or garden germs, should do the trick. I would soak everything and let it sink in then soak it again and then shovel it up. It wont be a pleasant job and it wont be a clean job but it has to be done. Other than that an, expensive, cleaning company to professionally clean it. Only problem with bleach is that it stinks and good luck with finding something that the EU haven't dumbed (a quite purposely used word) down to the point of being useless.

thanks, as mentioned, I expect it to be a horrible job that will live with me forever.
Therefore I'll probably hire for it :D
