We've got a renderer booked in for the end of this month to finally cover up the nasty brickwork of our 1920's bungalow, using K-Rend.
However, as with most, they won't render below the damp-course. They've recommended 'blackjack', which I guess is a bitumen paint.
However, the brickwork isn't in the best condition and I feel that it needs some work before doing anything with it. I plan to brush it down to remove all the loose material and will repoint where needed, but a lot of it is covered in this hard, scaley residue. (see pic).
Any suggestions on how to handle this?
