Just had some builders in to remove an old fireplace and expose the old brick arched 'range' fireplace . They have cleaned it up with acid based brick cleaner, but it hasn't worked that well .
I found a reference in an american article on the web that talks about using a mixture of 'Naptha soap', Pumice powder and ammonia to clean up the fireplace (removing the 90 years of old soot). I can buy Pumice powder on the web but does anyone know where I can get the other stuff?
Alternatively it talks about using Trisodium Phosphate, anyone know where to get some of that (I have an idea it might be in Gunk Drive Cleaner but am not sure).
Or has anyone any other ideas?
Thanks
