Hello. I've got an old coal bucket which for a bit of a project I'd like to clean up and repair a bit to use it for firewood storage.

I've no idea what sort of metal it's made out of (it's 40+ years old though), nor do I know anything about cleaning metal.

How should I go about cleaning and polishing it up?

Also, any advice about how to reattach the large emblem that has come off the surface?

The body is copper, the ornamental parts are brass. The emblem was probably soldered on.
