hi. I have just bought a 'ready primed' window board to use as an internal step to finish off our french doors. I was going to paint it with Satin Gloss but wanted to protect it further with it being a step.

Can i apply some kind of varnish (I'm after a satin finish), to protect the gloss? If so which kind would you recommend?

Or am I best off putting wooden floor paint onto the door step with no varnish? If so which kind would you recommend?

any advice welcome.

many thanks

Varnish wont protect it any further. Varnish over oil based paints tend to make it look yellow aswell.

if its mdf then it will fail quite quickly unless you keep it dry

I seem to recall that Tecaloid vehical paint had a varnish top coat system. It was used on our council lorries in the 70/80's according to my father who worked for the local authorities at the time .
Not that it really helps answer the question.

thanks all. and er...thanks ladylola :)

So perhaps wooden floor paint is the way forward for better protection from being scuffed etc? Yes its primed MDF.

Which is Dulux's terminology for Acrylic Eggshell

Satinwood is not Dulux's eggshell, eggshell is Dulux's eggshell, acrylic or not.
