Is the replacement of these CV joints straightforward IE circlip on spline or is another retention method used, I have been of the tools for years but Daughters car etc etc

I can only comment on the early small engined Clio (1996 - 2000) and they had the snap ring retention.
These days its slide a new boot over the joint or an exchange driveshaft for me.

Not the easiest job in the world, as you probably know. I've been told about boots with sips on the side, bur have had no experience, we just go the conventional route. Don't forget you may need to put the shaft in the vice (well its easier, sometimes), needing the gearbox oil to be refilled.

Is it badly split or clicking, might be OK till next weekend ....... :LOL:
 
Hi thanks, this one is clacking like mad on very little lock, about to come adrift I think,Its off the road for now and as it worth bugger all as a none runner I thought Id repair it

Don't use the split boots - they are truly awful.
An exchange driveshaft will be around the £70 mark, maybe the CV alone will be cheaper. There's also the breaker route!
