How do you remove the lid from a close couple cistern? If I try and lift it off the buttons to flush come up as well - I'm concerned I'll break something if I just keep lifting.
I'm trying to lift it off as I think there is something wrong with the valve as the cistern keeps running.

Unscrew the collar around the buttons, then lid will lift off along with buttons.

;)

Thanks for the advice but the collar is not keen to move without the buttons moving too. Could it need prised up with a screwdriver? The make is dolomite

Some of them have a screw under the buttons.

Push one button down and hold it, see if you can lever the other button out, then take the remaining button out. This should reveal a screw which holds the button to the top of the flush valve, take out the screw and the top should lift off.

The two buttons should be colour coded in some way so you can get them back in the same way round.
