hi all,
i own a w reg ford focus estate. for a while i've been having "wobbly clutch" problems.
first the piston going into the master cylinder snapped, had it replaced, no problem.
about a year later, the master cylinder gave up the ghost. the pedal began to wobble from side to side and then there was no pressure or tension in the clutch at all. master cylinder was replaced, all well.
a week or so later, the pedal again started to seem "floppy" and could be moved side to side. i took it to the garage, they tightened the bolt at the top of the pedal and all was well.
a week or two later, the same happened! again, i went to the garage and they put a double-bolt on and it was "solid" again.
a month or two later (now!) and yes, no suprises, it happened again! this time i got on my hands and knees and took a look. from what i can see (and i'm a horrible amateur as you've probably already figured!) it doesn't seem to be the bolts at the top of the pedal. these seem tight yet the pedal still moves from side to side. instead it seems that it is the piston in the master cylinder that seems to wobble. instead of it going straight in and out neatly, it seems to wobble in having the effect of making the pedal wobble too.
this is a really frustrating problem for me. i know the car's getting on but apart from this it's in great shape and there's no other problems at all.
does this sound a common complaint? are there any obvious fixes? i feel a bit stuck. i don't really want to take it to the original garage as they seem not to have helped much, do you think another garage could help?
many thanks to you all, look forward to reading some repies.
cheers!
