Hi,

I am in the process of building a garden room and am using 5x2 joists, I am going for a cold roof as limited on height so have installed 70mm celotex between joists and vented the space above. Have installed a vapour barrier to the underside and had planned to just plasterboard but I’d ideally like downlights.

My question is could I fix batten prior to the plasterboard to create a surface void or would this cause condensation issues between the plasterboard and vapour barrier? My thoughts are will probably be ok as the void space temp would be close to the room temp bit dont want to end up with issues down the line

Have searched about but can’t seem to find any answers, thanks in advance.

The underside of the celotex should be at the same temperature as the room below ...as you say...can't see any problem with what you propose...garden rooms won't have a lot of moisture anyway.
