I have recently replaced an old towel rail with a modern type, however have been unable to get the new one to work.

I have been told it is 'gravity fed',

I drained the system to fit the new radiator, but had problems getting it to fill, as water would not flow from the header tank-eventually filled by connecting to the mains.

All other radiators and HW work fine its just this one. Old rad worked fine before.

Any suggestions please would be appreciated

Do both the pipes enter the new towel rail at the bottom?
did they enter the old rad one at top one at bottom ?
Is your boiler on the ground floor and new rail on the first floor?
Are the valves wide open?
Does water come out now when you bleed the rail?
Are you getting hot water ok?

Both pipes are from the bottom as before, boiler is on ground floor, h/w tank on 1st floor

HW OK, and the pipes from the boiler going into the tank are hot. One side on rail is hot, other side not-have managed to get it luke warm since original question.

I have disconnected both sides of rail and water flows from both pipes, and will bleed ok. Both valves open.

Rail is on fist floor around 4 ft from hw tank

Turn all your other rads off and see if this extra pressure / lower resistance forces the hot flow into your towel rail.
Don't forget to bleed. :)
