Hi,
RE: Potterton Puma 80 echo: Myson cp61 pump.
History: I had to remove a radiator back in mid june for building work. Unfortunatly a lot of water was dispenced all over my lounge. I didn't realise I should refill the system and there has been low pressure in the system since. The boiler has been making noises which have been getting worst. Finally my boiler locked out yesterday whilst running a hot water tap. I tried resetting a number of times and the fault repeated after a loud bang.
I called out an engineer, who tested system. The diagnosis was that there was low water pressure and that the pump was damaged. He put more water into the system. The central heating is now working and we have hot water.
I was quoted £385 + VAT for the new pump. When I mentioned I would like to get other quotes the engineer's tone changed and he left quickly. His quote is atleast £300 over every quote I have received. I am now unsure as to whether his diagnosis on the pump is correct or whether he was feeling guilty re the pump price.
Please could you help with advice. What are the symptoms of a faulty pump?
Thank you in advance for your help,
K
