I have a washing machine which is connected to the hot and cold water supply. When filling the machine for a 40 or 50 degree wash it does not draw hot water from our combi boiler. However, carried out a rare 90 degree wash the other day, and it did. Does the machine heat up the water sufficiently at a lower degree wash or is there another reason for this? Our water pressure is fairly high, so this isn't the problem.

i think this post is more to do with your m/c than your combi.

when any system has a combi fitted, as soon as a hot tap (or in your case
,a hot water solenoid connected to your washing m/c) the dhw flow switch activates and combi heats up your hot water.

if its not operated when you have done a low (ish) temperature wash then your m/c has not opened its hot water solenoid.

thats down to your machine not your combi

i repaired washing machines 15 years ago and at that time the 90 degree wash was the only one which demanded hot water. The normal cycles heat their own water.
