Combi in Compartment

HI,

I would like to conceal my Worcester Bosch 24CDI boiler. The manual says it can go in a compartment but if certain clearances aren't achieveable then the compartment needs 270cm free area vents at high and low level.

Is free area just the area of the vent?

Are high and low level precisely defined (as in x cm from top of compartment) and if so, how?

Is it better to have the vents on the top and bottom of the compartment, or on the front of the compartment?

The need for vents [for this boiler] IS related to the need for clearances. [For most boilers, if it says you need compartment vents it doesn't matter about clearances - until the compartment is so big you can call it a room.] Any suitable vent will have the "free area" marked on it. If you vent to outside, you need smaller vents, but you should not vent to both.

Upper and lower vents are there for airflow - no precision required. You can vent through the floor and through the ceiling to a ventilated loft space if you want - both classed as "outside" IIRC.



Edited as [shown] - Sorry, I was wrong about this one. I quoted the normal Standards which are relaxed in this case by the Manufacturer's Instructions.

Compartment venilation is always reuired for open flued appliances but, many room sealed boilers do not require it. If the manufacturers installation instructions for your boiler state it's not required if the minimum clearances are observed then build your compartment to those dimensions,and forget the vents.

If you have to fit vents, free area is the total combined area of the holes or slots in the vent.
