I am buying a house which has its hot water provided by a communal gas boiler system. I think it serves approx 6 houses. An annual charge is made both for usage and service/maintenance etc. I would like to install a power shower but fear that this communal system will prevent me doing so. Have you had experience of this type of system and what type of shower do you think I could use.

Thanks

the boiler has no bearing on a power shower. As long as you have a cylinder for stored hot water a plumber will probably fit a seperate new cold feed tank for the cold supply to the shower. Manufacturer's instructions will tell you the head of water pressure required normally 1 meter max.

I don't have any experience of that system of hot water supply though I'm afraid

Check with the people you pay this money to. If the hot water is communal also then it will be from large unvented cylinders in the boiler house. What's the pressure in the hot water like compared to the cold if it's not to far away then it should be ok.

Deffinatly check with those people though.

If the pressure is good then I would fit a mixer shower, there will be no need for the pump that is in the power shower.

Electric showers have a much lower flow rate unless you get one that needs a power station to feed it.
