Can anyone tell me how to get rid of concrete trapped in sink where the U pipe is. The pipe is made of plastic, so I might not be able to use any sort of Acid. There is small amounts of water passing through, but too much water can\\\'t pass - and has to go through the overflow pipe.

Do as Kev says, change trap and dont wash your bucket and trowel in the sink. Use the dishwasher!!!!

Would it not be possible to clean it with something like Coustic Soda? or would that damage the plastic?

Cement paste is an alkaline material so will not be attacked by caustic soda. A strong acid will attack concrete but it will take some time to eat away the cement as well as being dangerous.

A replacement trap is the way to go although if you take the trap off you may be able to dislodge or break up the obstruction.

Perhaps Softus. But there was a survey in the media yesterday about how poor young 20 year olds were at DIY. They have to rely on parents for basic things like plug changing etc.
