I have just had a reclaimed fieplace fitted in an existing opening in a house of circa 1900.
The slab at floor level is quite large and quite a bit bigger than the new slate hearth fitted to go with the fireplace.
Ideally, I would like to have a nice smooth finish and paint it balck to match the new hearth. Don't want to go diggin up the old slad and am planning to sand the floor boards so it will be visable.
Is it possible to "skim" the original slab to get a smooth finish and then paint it?
Anyone any ideas?
