Hi all,

I am looking to tile over tiles in a toilet that was converted from an outbuilding of some kind, therefore there is no heating and is very cold underfoot in the cold months.

Now the tiles are sound so I understand I can tile over the top given I use a decent adhesive, but could I fit under floor heating between the two layer of tiles and still feel the benifit?

Height isn't a huge issue, so I could fit insulation board over the old tiles, then UFH then new tiles?

Thoughts welcome :)

Thanks

Matt

If you're going to fit underfloor heating, then you really need to take up the old tiles, and dig down a bit to get the insulation in first, otherwise you'll be raising the floor at least a coupld of inches.

Not sure how level the tiles are, and how big the toilet is, but I'd suggest 5mm fibreboard, and then engineered wood to give a warmer floor surface.

are you concerned about actually heating the room or just making it warmer underfoot. if you just used an electric mat between two layers of tiles then it would definitely feel warm to bare feet for example, but might well just be heating the subfloor and having very little effect on the air temperature in the room.
