I have recently had an extension built. The builder left the cabling for three outside lights to be connected. There are 4 cables at the centre light, 2 to supply power to the other 2 lights, 1 supply and one loop in.
How do I connect this wiring inside the light which only has the standard live/neutral/earth connection blocks?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

do you know which is which?

is one cable unbroken?

is there a cable by the switch position? (you did not mention switch)

Yes all cables identified, 2 going to the other lights, 1 coming from the switch and 1 marked loop.

connect the two reds to the other lights together

connect the two blacks to the other lights together

these "two" you connect to the third light (r & b respectivly)

connect the red from the loop in to the red to the switch (nothing else)

Turn mains OFF

put red tape on the black from the switch (this is called a switched live)
connect this black (black with red tape) to the reds for the lights

connect the remaining black ( from the loop in cable) to the blacks for the lights

connect the switch

all earth wires should have gren /yellow sleeving on them and connected together and to the earth terminal of the lights respectively

I am assuming you know where the othe end of the loop in is? or is that connected to the existing lights already?

if it is switch mains on and press switch

Thanks Breezer.

When you say connect the red from the switch to the red from the loop in, do you mean add a new connector block in the light fitting?

Apart from that it all seems straightforward

I will give it a go (if it ever stops raining!)

Thanks once again for your help

Lights installed and working perfectly.

You are a star

Thanks Breezer
