Hi, when connecting the flexible tap tails to a tap are they just hand tightened only because im finding it impossible to get a spanner in to tighten them up and i have caused one to leak?
thanks
Tony - go and buy/borrow a basin wrench, a specialist tool for reaching up into those awkward spaces to tighten pipe fittings onto taps - basic basin wrench from B&Q maybe a fiver, better quality tool maybe £15. The fitting needs to be tight and don't forget to check any washers are in place.

The flexible connections are 10mm with a little rubber seale on the thread. The tap is not fixed to the sink as yet as it is a mixer tap so getting to the flexible tails is not a problem its the actual tightening of them because once you have tightened one there is not enough room to get the spanner in to tighten the other.
In which case provided you haven't damaged the 'O' ring smear a little silicon grease onto the thread & 'O' ring tighten by hand then there is normally flats cast on to the end for an open ended spanner or use a pair of pliers to nip them up.
They do NOT require tightening as much as possible with a 6 foot wrench just tight enough that you cannot undo them by hand!
