Hi ,

I’m just in the process of removing a wall, the corner of the wall ( which is in the photo ) is going to be replaced with a wooden post 6x6 or 8x8.

Currently the joists meet at a tee section( sorry I’m a plumber lol ) and below that it’s just resting in the wall.

Im trying to figure the best way to connect the post to these joists?

I didn’t know if I should cut the post below the joists same as the wall the get some wall straps and connect it to it or go through the ceiling and bolt through the joists and post

The joists are to the rooms above
Thanks
Jake

Form a lap joint, or even a bridle joint at the top of the post and bolt it through.
