Recently bought the daughter a laptop ( Fujitsu Siemens Amilo 2727 ). Got connected to the internet no problem. Then I downloaded a free version of Kaspersky anti-virus. Now when I press the Fn+F1 keys nothing happens. If I disable the AV I can connect as normal. I know the answer must be in the AV settings somewhere but I haven't a clue where. Any kindly soul got a solution to my dilemma?

Hi there,

I personally don't know or use the software you are talking about (so I don't know what F1 is supposed to do).

*however* it sounds as if the anti-virus prog has blocked port 80 comms; you need to enable that in the port settings in Kaspersky (they will be in there somewhere!). Remember to enable both Rx and Tx.

Personally I use Norton which you have to pay for, but it is very good *IF* correctly configured! There are a lot of people who say "Norton is crap", but they tend to be the ones who don't configure their firewall settings correctly ;) If you're looking for something free + good, I have used Sophos in the past - needs a little more manual tuning than Norton, but does a good job (well, it did when I used to use it back in '04/'05).

Shame I don't know nearly as much about building work as I do about computers!

Solo,
You say you have a free version of Kaspersky AV, that, I assume will only be a time limited trial. As that seems to be in conflict with your web connection, it would be a waste of time trying to solve the problem just to have to uninstall it shortly (unless you want to pay for it later).

You have narrowed it down to that so why not download a free AntiVirus program and uninstall Kaspersky.
You can checkout a lot of trusted freebies in my post HERE

Sorry it doesn't solve the Kaspersky problem but as it is a free trial offer, nothing lost.

Sorted, but thanks for the replies.

dave.m, this version is actually free for 12 months. Barclays are giving it away free to their online customers as spotted in another post.

I remember now about the free offer from Barclays and glad to hear that you got it sorted.
What did you do to fix it so that anyone else with the problem may know what to do?
