Hi all,

We have a south-facing conservatory which is full-length glass all the way round and 15sqm in size. As you have guessed it, it is very hot in summer and very cold in winter.

Temporarily we would like to change this to make the room into an office whilst we get to a point where we will knock it down and build an extension (which we don't have the funds for).
I have already insulated the ceiling with a foil quilt and white cladding which has helped somewhat but it is still too hot in summer because of the glass on all sides.

My initial plan was to replace the glass on the two sides of the conservatory from the house with infill panels which are a polystyrene sandwich with mdf in the middle. The idea is that it will insulate against the cold and shade against the sun in summer making the room a little more bearable. However, the infill panels for the size of the glass are £80 each and I will need 4 on each side which is an eye-watering £640 for something temporary.

I then came up with the idea of somehow attaching 50mm Kingspan which is cut to the size of the glass and using a strong contact adhesive to stick it to the glass itself.. I know it's a bodge and unconventional but far cheaper and I know someone who can supply the kingspan at a discount.

I don't care about what it looks like outside as I can cover that up with thin PVC sheets.

Has anyone done something similar?(probably not) and what are your thoughts?

Glass shading paint might be an option.

To stop heat you need something on the outside..
Paint glass then fence panels or wood cladding to stop the sun heating the glass.
