Hopefully this thread won't descend into farce however I have my doubts!

When it comes to conspiracy theories, they range from the totally bizarre to ones that seem to have at least some basis in reality.

Are there any conspiracy theories you think could be true, or that you're at least more open to considering? One that springs to mind with me is pharma and the cancer cure. If it's more profitable to treat cancer than cure it, is it conceivable a cure has perhaps been identified and buried? I think so. More so than the flat earth theory that's for sure.

Let the (hopefully semi-serious) debate commence ...

Let the usual suspects descend.

Perhaps "conspiracy theory" should first be defined.

It is not, as many on here seem to think, something - anything - with which you merely disagree; but that there is an ulterior motive for some policies of government although, obviously, simple incompetence can cause the the same result.

Has there ever been such a thing in the past?

Surely, you would be naive to think that that has never happened, therefore...

What about the invasion of Iraq?

9 / 11 ?

JFK shooting ?

Princess Diana car crash ?

Marlyn Munro ?

american moon landing ?

The white helmets in Syria ?

etc etc

Part of the lure of a conspiracy theory is being part of the 'in' crowd. You know something that others do not.

Unleash the Kraken... :ROFLMAO:

i'll add in something more recent, you have to be really careful these days what you read on social media, i think social media is a very dangerous tool which has caused the opposite (division) to its intention (togetherness)

there's a rising popularity that covid is just simply an excuse for which the government is using to strip us of our liberties, (this theory has been helped by increasing disparity in the way police handle matters, for example BLM protest fine, anti lockdown protest - not fine, police using unnecessary force etc), also adding that both boris and trump managed to survive Covid and they are old (in terms of trump, though boris is no spring chicken) and obese/unhealthy.

There appears to have been further fuel added to this in terms of "the great reset"...........

One would hope that the general level of intelligence on this site, would rise above the rank stupidity of Facebook/Twitter.

My interest with some theories is the argument for can be quite appealing. However, this is immediately balanced with the logic of how many people would need to be 'in on it' ... and remain so for the rest of their life. Take the moon landing, for it to be engineered, how many people would have to be complicit in the lie? That's where most of them start to fall down for me, even where you can find e.g. political reasoning behind the argument.

When the second coming lands here in 2021 in his time machine, he'll tell us that conspiracy theories are a load of twaddle.

Landing on the moon. From a high level whilst i believe the tech bravery and calculations existed, i still dont sit well with the excuse of due to refraction etc we are unable to see the tracks left from the lunar landings. Yet hubble etc sends us back pics of things millions of lightyears away.
