Evening all

I had hardwood doors fitted front + back of my house approx March 2006, a standard door on the front + a stable door on the rear of the house. I then, during April + May 2006, put 4 coates of Ronseal over the doors.

But..........since November 2006 up until now, i've had to plane both doors 4 times each as they're constantly expanding + sticking in the frame. Is this to be expected with new doors? if so then will I have to plane a few more times?

I hope that I don't have this problem next year.

Any advice would be welcome, cheers

did you give the end grain at the bottom extra attention 90 % of problems are caused through water going up the end grain and swelling the wood

this can apply to the door frame as well
if you take to much off you will have problems in the summer
leave till the summer and paint properly giving special attention to the end grain

I've taken off the front + back hardwood doors to varnish the underside of them but i've noticed that the back door has particularly suffered.

It's a stable door, so i took off the bottom leaf + put on a couple of coats of varnish BUT you can see a 1mm gap between the bottom rail and stiles on both the left + right of the door. As i said i've given it a good few coates of varnish but i was wondering if there's anything i can use to fill this 1mm gap i've got between both the stiles + bottom rail?

I presume putty wouldn't be a long term answer? any suggestions would be welcome- cheers
