Converting out-buildings into a bungalow

Hi all,

After deciding against applying for planning permission on agricultural land because the chances of it being granted is so slim, we've decided to try and convert some out-buildings on the family farm into a 3 bed bungalow.

The outbuildings are 1 sturdy brick shed, quite long and narrow, which backs on to a disused parlour which is made from brick and steel (i think!).

What are the first steps going about this conversion? Is it a relatively simple thing to do? (i.e. will there be many restrictions?) We were hoping that as the buildings are just being used for tat, namely a sit down mower, plant pots and a few tools which can be put into other out-buildings (there are about 5/6 other large brick sheds) then planning would be granted, hopefully!

Any advice would be great, and anyone who knows a good architect/planner/specialist conversion builders around the Swansea areas would be fab.

Thanks in advance, R.

I saw the "building topic" and as it said "Questions, comments and enquiries related to all aspects of building" I thought "all" would cover my question, sorry if it doesn't! I did have a look for a more related forum but couldn't find one that was quite so broad or active as this one. I just wanted to see if anyone could give me advice on going about this so I didn't go in blindly to see a paid professional, wanted some background info on the kind of thing that needs doing first because I thought that would be the most sensible thing.

Rebecca,

You may be better off posting these ideas/queries in Building Regs and Planning first to get the info you need and then coming back to Building for advice on the aspects of actually doing it a little later.
