I just thought that I'd share this bodge of mine that seems to work pretty well. I have one of those cookers with an ignition button. Every so often, however, one or other of the burners decides that it's not going to spark. For some time, to remedy this situation, I have just removed the offending burner top and cleaned the contact areas with a bit of wet and dry. This only seems to work for a relatively short time though.
Recently instead of the wet and dry treatment, I simply rubbed the contact areas with an ordinary pencil. This treatment seems to last much longer than my cleaning process. I'm not quite sure why. Perhaps the graphite acts as a protective film that prevents further corrosion, while still being conductive.
