Hi,

Please forgive me for what is probably a daft question.

I have never fitted a cooker hood before, and the ones i have seen have always had a flexible plastic or metal duct jubilee clipped to the spigot on top of the hood, but im having to install mine using some flat ducting. To connect to the flat ducting im using a circular to rectangular elbow made from plastic. Is it ok to silicone seal this elbow to the spigot on top of the hood? or should another method be used?

Thanks

Duct tape is the stuff to use. As the name suggests, it is made for taping up ducting!!

If the round to flat adapter isn't quite the right diameter to match up with the spigot on the hood, you might need to use soem adapters for joining lengths of round duct together to get a good fit. Toolstation and Screwfix sell them.

ok cooker hood fitted and piped up with duct tape!

Only problem i now have is that the hotpoint supplied spigott on the hood doesnt seal very well. Its a slot into place and twist 90 degrees type one - but air leaks out around the rim of it. I have tried duct taping this up but because the spigott doesnt have a flat top - its moulded and has strengthening pieces on it - the duct tape wont seal it very well and the leaky air ends up lifting it up.

this is the one...
Any ideas how to seal it to the top of the hood? makes an awful whistling noise.

Are you saying that one Hotpoint part is too loose a fit in another Hotpoint part? Are you sure there is not a felt or foam gasket missing somewhere? If it is just a bad design you could try some of the self adhesive draught excluder foam tape you can buy for putting round door and window frames.

no its the one supplied in the box with the hood. the one i linked to is just an example which is the same.

I will try the foam tape. Just cant believe this is how they all are!
