no sooner is one kitchen upgrade problem solved...when along comes another!
Fitted a cooker hood a few weeks ago which has been working just fine but I do have an irritating problem. The vent goes straight out of the kitchen wall. Outside the vent cover (one of those square white plastic ones with 3 flaps which blow out when the fan is on) it is about 2m high in a passageway between our house and next door, the passage being about 1.5m wide, running north to south.
The problem: if there is a wind, blowing down that passage (there often is), it draws the inside flaps that cover and protect the fans on the hood, consequently as they are horizontal they flap up and down and make this tapping noise like Michael Flatley on speed! That can be heard in the living room as we are open plan.
I thought of putting some kind of cowling around the vent, but wonder if the problem will still exist if my theory is correct that it is the wind passing over the vent drawing the flaps up.
Anyone had this type of problem- and fixed it?
