many thanks mapj1. There is an adjacent cooker point with a 10mm cable going back to the consumer unit (30 amp). I shall come off that into a fused spur for the cooker hood. Thanks again
Glad it helped - er which post was this? Please make sure any cable from the 30A supply before the fused spur is at least rated for short circuit protection by the 30A MCB, if its less than a couple of metres I'd suggest 2.5mm minimum. (it cannot carry more than 27A indefinately, but the spur fuse sees to that, but if it gets nailed into, it can carry the fault current required to blow the 30A trip without reaching a dangerous temperature.)
After the fused spur, it can be 1mm if you like, or whatever the cooker hood people suggest.
