The cooker connection unit has loosened. The cooker cable is very short. I want to tighten the screws to see if this will stop the flickering. How can I do this safely? Turn off the cooker mains switch will do and then tighten the screws?
Thank you

If it is just the internal oven lights flickering & the cooker is working OK then it is doubtful that a loose connection on the CCU is the problem, you would have a bigger problem with the oven heating. Remove clean & refit the lamp & clean the holder, probably a build up of grease is causing a poor connection in the cooker itself.

So as long as the mains switch is turned off it will be completely safe to touch the cover?
I haven't done this sort of thing before and heard stories of people getting electrocuted tampering with electrics in the home.

While on the subject, if tightening the screws doesn't solve the problem and there is a loose connection, or if I wanted to replace my cooker in the future, would it be better not to attempt it myself but leave any removal and/or reinstallation of the cables to a qualified electrician?
