Hi all, finding myself in a bit of a fix!
i need to install a new range cooker, it has a 14.4kw rating, i need to know if a 32a rcd with 6mm cable to a bi-polar cooker switch jobbie (with a socket outlet) and 6mm tail is sufficient for the cooker without causing nuisance trips or worse... the cable is less than 50mm into the wall plaster and does not run through insulation, am sat here waiting to wire it in and dont want to burn the house down.

also, do i need a switched fused spare for the extractor?, its only a 3 amp supply but says it must be hard wired and not plugged in.

many thanks in advance..

Short answer. No. Neither cooker switch nor mcb rated highly enough. You don't give run length for cable so not sure about that, but probably iffy.

Apologies, run length is around 2mtr... so, if u dont mind would i need to upgrade mcb to 45amp and renew cable aswell? or just the switch?
what cable 10mm?

thanks again..

14.4 kW is very close to the 15kW limit for domestic cooking appliances on as 32A breaker:

rated current = 62.6A
diverse current = 10 + (0.3 x 52.6) + 5 = 30.8 A

...but it would comply unless the MI's say otherwise. You should have nothing else on the circuit, and I would change the switch-with-a-socket for one without a socket.

But a 40A or 45A circuit would give you scope for a bit less diversity in your cooking habits. 6mm² T&E PVC cable is rated at 47A if, and only if, it is installed clipped direct. i.e. no insulation and no conduit or trunking.

Echoes is correct.

The regulations state that manufacturers instructions must be followed but there is no electrical reason why you cannot use a plug.
