Hi all,

I am trying to reduce the reoccurrence of moss and mold on my kitchen extension pitched roof. I have heard an adhesive copper strip can help, but they seem expensive. Would getting a much cheaper length of copper flashing work the same? I wasn't sure if the more expensive copper strip had something added to it that works better?

Any advice appreciated

If it works, it would work the same. So would a regular spraying of something nasty

I have just fitted a 150mm-wide self-adhesive copper strip to the ridge of my garden room's pitched roof, 5 metres wide, for eventual demossification purposes, having twice sprayed the roof with strong acetic acid then when several days later dry, laboriously scraped off the dead moss. The roof is made of felt tiles. While I cleaned the ridge first (obviously) and the adhesive seemed well sticky, about half the edge, mostly on one side, lifted in patches after just a couple of days. I went back and repeated the dressing-down, first squirting in some Unibond Extreme Repair sealant then pressing down hard with a wallpaper seam roller. Blow me if it hasn't lifted in at least one place again. Far too wet now to try again though the Unibond stuff claims it can stick to wet surfaces (it may but I don't). I will have another go when it's dry but if I'd known this would happen I'd have used extra adhesive from the outset. The 5 metre strip cost about £45 off Amazon. Your solution + adhesive may be better.
