Core drilling.

Wasnt sure where to put this but thought plumbers probably do a lot of core drilling.

I have this drill.

And want to drill a 117mm hole is it up to the task?

Yes, have a similar spec bosch drill and done a fair amount of core drilling with it, mainly 50mm and 117mm

I cannot see where it says you can core drill with it... Trust me when core drilling you need a safety clutch..
If you are doing a one off hole might be better to hire the gear for the day.

The manual says for core drilling don't use hammer action. Nothing about the size of hole though, is there a limit?

Depends what you're drilling into!

But yes, it will get you there.

Be going through normal single brick in the loft for an extractor fan.

If they don't mention what size it cores to then drop makita a email and ask them or screwfix should have that info.
My last core drill done 152mm but it stated on the drill and instructions so i would give them a email. If the core get stuck while drilling you will be thankful for the safety clutch.

The manual for the slightly more powerful 2600-series says max diamond core size of 80mm, so I think your 117mm is likely to reduce the lifespan of your drill or kill it altogether

As above, I've had a very similar Bosch model for 7+ years, which has probably done 25+ 117mm cores, and probably double that figure for 50mm cores, with a lot of chipping and drilling on top of that. Seems to still be holding up ok, which I'll admit has surprised me!

Even 80mm it will struggle.
Drilling into reinforced concrete with it would just be a waste of time.

Seems a lot of conflicting advise. I need to do a 52mm one as well so might see how it goes with that first.

Seriously, going through a single skin of brick you will be absolutely fine with that

The manual for the 2470 - bottom of the screwfix page - gives the max dry diamond core capacity as 65mm so anything larger will be overworking the gun, as @muggles suggests it will probably overheat and shorten the life of the motor.

Chances are it will be ok for the occasional larger cut but if it has issues the warranty will be void. If in doubt call Makita, after all it's their powertool, they will tell you.
