Correct fitting for 3/8 Alkathene

Hi,
I have what I believe is a 3/8 Black Alkathene feed (I measured it at around 17mm) to my 1980's built house.

At the moment it goes into the stopcock (15mm copper on the other side), but this is seized so can't be turned off. I've fitted a new stopcock just downstream of it, but feel i should really remove the old stopcock.

Is this the correct fitting to convert 3/8 Alkathene to 15mm copper and is this all I need?:

And is it worth my while doing this, or should I just not bother and leave the old tap there?

The pipe stopcock is only about 2 - 3 inches above the floor, so it could be a bit fiddly to get in there, how easy are these fittings to work with?
