Just need some advice as to the best thing to do with this type of roof.

I'm on the residents managing committee of a block of flats and our block of 12 garages are all leaking and need recovering, they're probably over 30 years old.

Currently cement-asbestos corrugated sheeting supported on concrete joists

Obviously we will get a contractor in to do the work but is it better to leave in situ and recover or remove and start again. Also what sort of materials should be used/avoided.

Thanks

Get as many quotes as poss for removal. Some will try and charge fortunes for removing asbestos due to the name 'asbestos' and the cost of specialist materials and tools involved. The truth is that in corrugated sheet form asbestos is relatively low risk and the only specialist tools involved are; disposable gloves/suit, good quality masks, a hosepipe or sprinkler system, plastic bags, some gaffa tape and erm that's it!
As for replacement roofing, bitumen sheets will be cheapest, for a more solid roof go for osb covered with a couple layers of felt, this is about as far as you'd need to go for a block of garages.
