corsa 54 plate 1.0

my 18 year old has corsa 1.0 54 plate petrol engine light code P1405 which I think is Egr valve?
is this correct? can this valve be cleaned? as this was his first car he will be selling soon the car has 118k miles also can he use shell v power fuel if it helps to partly clean contamination thanking in advance

apologise for not giving full detail earlier. corsa lifetwinport petrol 998 cc reg 2004 but 2005 model 120k miles
update with neighbours help egr valve was cleaned so was mass air sensor the service light has gone
and the car drives much better he needs further help with following
1.engine noise is little tappety is it OK for him to try Wynn's tappet treatment
2.don't know what oil garage used but he topped it few weeks ago with 10/40w (1ltr)
he wants to know which oil he should use 5/30w or 5/40w or 10/40w

Despite the advancing miles, I'd only use the 5/30 fully synthetic in this engine.
The Wynns tappet treatment may be of benefit, but only for a short while......important that the full level on the dipstick isn't exceeded though!

after internet search have identified 2 options to help with tappety noise and wanted advise/help
in making a choice between the two. as mentioned earlier the mileage is 120kk
1.kalimex K-tek AF 64 anti friction metal treatment cost £17
2.wynns hydrolic valve lifter £7
also need help does he have oil change before adding the treatment last oil change 3k miles ago
is it advisable to have engine flush or will it make matter worse! thanking in advance

Add the oil treatments if you want - they may have some temporary effect. Make sure maximum oil level isn't exceeded though.
I don't use engine flushes personally, but I could be tempted to add the Forte flush if the oil change was seriously overdue.
If the hydraulic lifters are noisy, replacement is the only permanent cure but at 120k I wouldn't bother....just how bad is it?

Yearly oil changes with 5W30 synthetic will raise care of the tappets.

thanks for the reply tbh the noisy is not to bad my ask for the flush was because even after last oil change
3k miles ago (fyi his annual milege is 3k) the colour of the new oil was blackish) so the car has done 3kk annual
miles and is due oil+filter change so wanted to add oil treatment and am not sure about the flush your final
thoughts will b appreciated.thanks

Seriously, modern lubricants are so good, flushing really isn't needed. This engine is hardly in its first flush of youth, so a little piston blowby can be expected, hence turning the oil blackish maybe quicker than you'd expect.
My advice would be to forget about the flush and treatments and continue with the oil changes as you are doing......5W/30 fully synthetic is the boy!

It wont hurt to try the flush before changing the oil but make sure you use a decent brand form someone like wynns or forte.
If your sons journeys are all short and infrequent then id be changing the oil every 6 months personally even on an old car.
You dont have to buy fancy or expensive oils just use the correct grade that meets the specs for the engine, for the sake of £20 every 6 months its a small price to pay.
