Very roughly, at today's gas prices (I'm with Eon), how much does it cost for one unit of gas ? My meter type is below. It's easier to calculate with electrical meter as its a straight per kW charge.

I guess one unit is equivalent of the meter reading below to move from 23590.0 to 23591.0 ie to the left of the red?

Really? Isn't that too high? I thought it was about 33p for every unit. I guess it depends on the calculation that is used. Might vary across regions as I was told the formukarbis different depending on the type of meter you have.

It might be, but this depends on what 'unit' you are referring to.
The meter in the picture is metric, one unit being 1 cubic meter,
Others have 1 unit as 100 cubic feet, which is 2.83 times larger.

My last bill worked out at £1.48 per (m³) unit (@ 4.7p per kWh) plus daily standing charge.
£1.48 per 100 cubic feet, or 52p per m³.
Much cheaper gas is available.

Gas in the UK is normally charged per kWh like electricity. Most meters measure the volume of gas in cubic meters or cubic feet.

This link will help you convert the measured volume to kWh's: http://www.ukpower.co.uk/home_energy/gas_meter_readings

Just remember to use the calorific value that is correct for your gas provider and the sourced location of your gas.
