had a quote for a multi fuel stove and just want to check if people think this is reasonable.

ignoring the price of the stove itself installations quoted at about £1500, this doesnt include a hearth or prep for the fireplace as thats already done. and its to be fitted in an existing chimney but with a new liner.

this £1500 purely covers, flue liner - about 7m in length, the plate at the bottom to seal the chimney, connect it all, test it and issue the HETAS certificate.

still waiting on 2 other quotes but anyone had similar done and is this reasonable?

Sounds like a couple of days work to me. Can't see it being more than £500-£700.

that figure does include parts also, just recieved another quote thats got a breakdown, that one comes to about the same - £750 for parts further £750 for labour, testing and registration.

going to check the cost of parts online for a rough figure to make sure they aren't taking the P, but labour is also high for this one as they've commented they will need a 'cherry picker or specialist chimney scaffolding'

Hetas is like replacement windows when they first came onto the market ;) Caveat Emptor

Sheet of galvanized steel with a hole cut in the middle, few brackets, tub of fire cement, chimney cowl, flexi liner and half a dozen self tappers....£750. Yeh right!

I thought that sounded very high, but I have done a check. The flue from stoves online is £58/mtr so thats roughly £450 for flue. All the other bits and bobs add up.

It might be more to insulate the flue as well - are you having that done as well?

Here is a link to once company for an idea of price. (it was the first link from google)

750 for labour - no idea whether this is reasonable or not

the plot thickens,

the first one wasnt to insulate, but just had another quote of £750 for parts and labour- exculding the stove and to insulate it. this is less than the quote for parts alone from the previous companies.

each company has said the same that they need to use a 5inch liner and at 10m long this alone comes in at about £450

Have they actually specified 904 grade? You could be getting supplied 316, which as the text says on that website "316 grade stainless steel chimney liner that is used in most domestic applications"

I paid 1200 pounds about seven years back for a 316 grade liner and an insulation blanket around the liner. Connected to existing stove and sealed the inglenook with register plate. Pig of a job and worth every penny for me to have got done by pro's. (Thatched roof).

The £750 all in is sounding tempting isn't it. If you can check their credentials with hetas, maybe ask for a look at a previous job if they work locally, and you like 'the cut of their gib' then as Nige says, caveat emptor.
