Cost?

Hi everyone, reposting because i posted in the wrong section..


I’m looking for some advice on a some repair work i had done for me on my stone slate roof. there were loose/slipped tiles and broken ones that needed replacing.

I am curious to what the usual rate is on replacing these?

There were two of them doing the roofing and took them approximately 2 hour to finish..

All this was done from a roofing ladder, and must of replaced at least 15 slates..

I was given a estimate price of £350 to £400 does this sound fair to you or a bit steep?

Sounds steep but you also need to factor in fetching stuff and getting rid of stuff i.e. ladders and mat's etc as well as time spent on site and the recovery of time spent looking at the job, so it is likely to equate to a half day for two blokes.

I for one would not rush out and buy a van and some ladders wanting to do that kind of work for those prices. There are easier and safer ways of making more money on the ground.

I know a lot of people who would be happy to stay in their comfy office pressing their nice smooth keyboard keys whilst some other grunt risks his life for your roofs' well being.

If you thought it was steep then why did you accept?

Would you have thought that £250 was steep?

That could be as low as £150 + materials here in Sussex - or as much as £1k - depending if you got a local established roofer - or an itinerant one
