Hi all,

Quick question about about screws please. I have this bracket for my curtain pole. I will be drilling through the plasterboard, and into the bricks. In the attached picture, I would have preferred the silver screw, because it will make a flat contact with the bracket. But I can't find one thin and long enough in B&Q. My question is, will the gold one do, even though it won't be flush/flat with the bracket? Does it matter?

Thanks!!

the silver screw is a dome head screw with a machine thread and no good for screwing into wall plugs

the gold one is fine

just encountered an issue. Firstly, my drill bit is not long enough (but I imagine I can easily buy a longer one). Secondly, my screws are not long enough to reach into the bricks. My curtain bracket accepts probably 4mm size readily. but it is only 60mm long. I think I need one around 10cm, which I can't find on B&Q.

I think you’ll struggle Tabita to find 4mm screws much longer than say 50mm but you could maybe use screws from frame fixings or whatever.
I guess there’s a gap between the plasterboard and wall?
John :)

Do you mean not long enough to go into the brick far enough or you can't reach the brick with a 60mm screw?

If that's the case how big is the gap between the plasterboard and brick?

You can get 4mm screws up to 75mm (8 * 3") if you use an uno plug you only need 30mm into the brick leaving 45mm sticking out, surely that's enough to overcome the gap and the plasterboard?

Ironically putting up curtain poles/tracks is one of my least favourite jobs to do around the house - I always seem to be boxed into a corner where you need to get above the window recess, can't go above the lintel, hit voids, old holes/screws etc etc...

Thinking about it the last time I had an issue with curtain poles I ended up having to fill a void with fast cure polyester resin (repair after my son pulled out one bracket after swinging? on the curtain.)

I had to fit mine to thermolite, so use 200mm screws and opened up the bracket holes to 6mm.
