Does anybody know of a courier that offers a customer-specified window for collection?

Bought a door from eBay from a furnishing company in Hyde, Manchester (70 miles from me) who are only open from 14:00 to 16:00 in the week. I didn't know this until they told me after I'd paid.

Really want the door but don't want to have to drive up and pick it up.

I looked at some services as I agreed with an eBay seller that I would arrange a courier to collect an item they were selling if they could be in on a given day.

After buying the item, the seller gave me a windows of various times on different days.

I tried to accommodate with a fixed time courier, but the only one I found was CitySprint and the price was expensive at £70 plus Vat.

In the end I got the seller to agree to a DPD collection when the collection window was text at 9am to allow them to plan someone to be in accordingly.

For the sake of 70 miles I’d probably just collect if I were you. Take the other half, lunch in the Peak District somewhere and then get the door afterward.

You also have Shiply…they move big stuff cheaply (you have to wait for the couriers to compete each other down on price), but whether they’d work to such a specific window of time is questionable

Cheers @kingandy2nd

Since heard from him after asking for recommendations, and he's said he can now do 13:00 to 17:00 which helps quite a bit, could even chance it with one of the big names if they did afternoon slots. I did do a quote with CitySprint at it was £256...

Funnily enough, Shiply was mentioned on the item description but just looked like a paid advert. I'll try a go with them and see what it comes up with.

Some couriers will do same day collection until a cut off point , so booking at 11am (say) may just get you and afternoon slot. Trouble is it’s a big/bulky item.

Shiply is a funny beast. You’ll get crazy prices, then they requote in a race to the bottom which is all automated, and then you speak to someone at the end about what they can/can’t do and then get a final price.

I shifted a bifold door 200 miles for £135 quid once, but then got quotes of £400 to shift a pallet of laminate flooring 50 miles…no rhym or reason to it.

The format is really odd to me -- never seen or used it before. Best quote so far is £55 which I'm happy to accept really, just awaiting their confirmation that the collcetion time is okay. The door is £112 from B&Q but nowhere has it and hasn't since November. Managed to get this one still in its shrink wrap for £40. Yes it'd probably only cost a tenner in fuel, but the seller's times are a bit funny at the weekend and I treasure those!

I'm trying to think of a witty remark right back at you, but it's not happening!
Trying to fit a door delivery into a window?

Can I get this door in a convenient window?

Well as it happens, I'm actually looking to book a window in time to allow for the collection of a door which is filling the space a window once occupied!

Fair play…I’d probably leave Shiply 24 hours to see how low the quote go

That I will do! Hopefully a Manchester-based courier could do it for a reasonable price.

Still find the idea of the site great though -- I'll definitely be coming back to it.
