"Cover" for back boiler

A few years ago, I followed the advice of a plumber to have my old back boiler and gas fire replaced by a new Baxi back boiler. This was meant to be ultra efficient and a very good choice. Coments?

For a few years, it has had a plyboard stuck in front of it and this can be removed when servicing the boiler. I am now learning that this is not permissible. I am redecorating the room and currently have a gaping whole with a boiler stuck in it. I don't need a fire as we have central heating. can you please advise.

you can not have a BBU without a fire front, they share the same flue and the BBU is not safe without the fire front, you should turn it off immediately

The fire front that came with the boiler (and I no longer have...) was electric. I assumed it's there just for cosmetic purposes.

sorry I have never heard of a gas BBU with an electric fire ? cant see why anyone would want one, doesnt mean that they do not exist, I have just never come across them

The condensing version is an awful boiler but probably doesn't need the opening for anything but servicing. It might need some sort of provision for cooling air but it's been that long since I've looked at the instructions for this horrible thing I can't remember.

You will however still need the controls from the fire or it will throw up error codes or not work. I assume as you've not mentioned any problems they are stuffed in the "hole" with the boiler.

It's a "modern baxi back boiler" not one of the old ones that were under the traditional gas fires. I can understand that those gas fires used the same flue and it would be dangerous not to have this in place but unsure why that's the case with this. I think I have this:

Yes that is indeed the hateful thing you have.

Again, the fire is probably not necessary as the boiler is room sealed.

Reading between the lines I am thinking you want to fill the hole in for good?

That's probably merely a cosmetic issue but I would still consult the manufacturers instructions.

I’ve worked on a couple. They have a room sealed flue.

BG fitted one in a bungalow and charged 6.5k for it. No ungrades on the system, old rads and Trvs. Couid have put a new heating system and boiler in the garage for half that.

I spoke to someone at Baxi technical support and he was insisting that a fire front is required but without providing any logical explanation! The firefront just had a 13 amp plug and had no connection to the boiler. I don't understand how it is a critical part of this...

Because you never said that it was the newer condensing BBU from Baxi which does indeed have an electrical fire front
