Covering a Mixed Floor

In our hallway we have a mixture of surfaces. Wooden floor, three wooden steps, granite slabs and then three granite steps. This the result of moving some walls about and changing the use of rooms.

Anyway, her indoors wants the same floor covering over the whole lot. Uniformity is the name of the game. What are my options?

Wouldn't a carpet onto granite wear out very quickly? What else is possible? I'm not keen to have lino throughout, and anyway, it wouldn't go down on the steps.

Any suggestions?

Carpet with underlay will be fine.
