Hello all,

I've taken the tiles out of the bathroom for a refit, and the wall behind is more of a mess than I was hoping.

It's an Edwardian house, and large chunks of horse hair render have fallen off exposing old brickwork. I plan to hack it all back to brickwork, but then what's best?

It's a bathroom wall. The other three will be stud. Can I dot and dab the exposed brickwork? It's very dusty, and the mortar is unstable and crumbly in places.

Should I prep with watered down PVA first?

Thanks

the original mortar would have been lime based with horsehair added for strength, it will need sealing if you are going for a gypsum based plaster.
